Earth Day Challenge
In honor of Earth Day, the Homestead High School Global Warming and Awareness Club and the Sunnyvale Cool Cities Team challenge all Sunnyvale residents to spend all or some of their economic stimulus check on energy-efficiency.
By purchasing energy-efficient products, we can save money all year long by cutting our energy use and our energy bills.
We will also reduce our carbon footprint and help fight global warming.
Examples of energy-efficient products are:
Drum roll?
Compact fluorescent light bulbs! (Various shapes and types now available)
A bicycle for commuting and running errands!
A clothesline, clothes rack, or clips to reduce the use of the clothes dryer!
A power strip, to turn off when not using home electronics!
A water heater blanket!
Weather-stripping or caulking to seal leaks around doors, windows and pipes!
A programmable thermostat!
Double-paned windows!
A ceiling fan or whole house fan to reduce the need for air conditioning!
An Energy Star appliance, like a refrigerator or furnace!
How much energy can you save?
